4th of July Home Decor Ideas
Somehow, this summer seems to be slipping by too quickly! I realize it's not officially summer yet, but for me it begins when my kids start summer break. We are already planning activities for Independence Day and I wanted to share some DIY 4th of July home decor you can easily make yourself!
These DIY 4th of July mason jars are a bright pop of color that add a nice touch to a 4th of July tablescape.

SUPPLIES FOR MASON JAR AMERICAN FLAG:
- Mason jars/canning jars
- Acrylic craft paint in red, white and blue. I actually used some Amy Howard white chalk paint
- Small craft paint brushes
- Painter's tape
- Star Stencil. Instead of purchasing stencils, I just printed one on thick copy paper and carefully cut it out to give me a fairly precise edge for a homemade stencil.
STEPS 4th of July mason jars:
For the blue jar:
I painted the entire jar with two coats of blue paint, allowing plenty of drying time between coats. After allowing the final coat to dry, I held the stencil over the blue and painted in the white stars.
For the red and white jars:
Use the painter's tape to section off the stripes. I painted white first with 2-3 coats, allowing dry time between coats. I then removed the tape. When I was certain the white paint had fully dried, I taped over the white so I could paint in the red (2 coats).
Be aware that when you remove the tape, some of the white will inevitably come off. Just touch up with one of the small brushes as needed.
These can be used as decor without anything in them. Or you can use them for a table display at a 4th of July picnic, putting plastic cutlery inside. They would also look nice with some white flowers in them.
I have another project you might want to try! I completed this at Very Violet Boutique with a few neighborhood friends a couple of years ago.
4th of July Home Decor: Wooden American Flag
The class was so much fun! The boards were already nailed together, so all we had to do was paint!
On my flag, I used red, white, and blue paint. I also dry brushed walnut wood stain (just a little!) to give it more of a rustic look.
In a few places, I dry brushed white on the red and blue and red on the white and blue. If you aren't familiar with the dry brushing technique, I explain how to "dry brush" in another post: How to Update a Mirror with Chalk Paint.
Making this rustic wood American flag was a great way to get together with girlfriends, but it also allowed us to create something beautiful for our homes.
