It’s the season of love! I’m excited to give you a quick tutorial for an inexpensive and simple Valentine DIY Tic Tac Toe Bag! Make this fun Valentine’s craft with OR for your kiddos!
A Valentine tic tac toe bag is a simple diy/craft made with a burlap or muslin bag. It is created by painting or drawing the board on the outside of the bag and designing the tic tac toe pieces out of tiny wood chips, buttons, glass pebbles, or rocks. It is a simple craft for kids and adults.
Valentine’s Day is just around the corner and these DIY Tic Tac Toe bags are perfect for children to share with their special Valentine’s at school!
If you are a little crafty, you might just have all of the items in your craft space already!

How to make your Simple Valentine DIY Tic Tac Toe Bag:
Crafts don’t get much easier. This cute little DIY bag took me about 15 minutes from start to finish. Fast, easy, and pretty are my favorite projects.
Step 1: Pencil the Tic Tac Toe grid on the bag
I did a little bit of measuring, but just “eye-balling” the bag would work fine! I used a pencil and ruler to draw straight lines for the tic tac toe grid.
Very little pressure was used with the pencil. Just enough to let me know where to paint.
If you decide to use a fine tip marker instead of paint, you can skip past the paint step that is next!
Step 2: Paint the Grid for the Tic Tac Toe Board
Since I was painting the grid, I put some paper towels inside the bag so the paint would not bleed through.
If using paint, be sure to off-load your brush onto a paper towel prior to painting the grid. Chalk paint and acrylic paint were the types of paint I used.
BUT, nearly any kind of paint would work fine for this if you have paint in Valentine colors you like!
Traditional red and pink are great paint color choices. Black or white paint compliment these colors well and are possibly paint colors you have in your craft supplies
Step 3: Paint the X’s and O’s on the tic tac toe pieces
I used black chalk paint for the X’s and red acrylic craft paint for the O’s. Once again, these are supplies I had. If you do not have paint, the tic tac toe pieces would look great with permanent marker!
If you do not have wood chips/slices, small stones would work really well. Be creative! Use items you have on hand in your home or outdoors.
Other ideas for tic tac toe pieces: flat glass pebbles, buttons, pieces of felt or other heavy fabric. You get the idea! Find items you already have and use them.
Step 4: Stencil a saying/phrase on your Valentine bag
Your Valentine bag can be personalized to say whatever you’d like! I had a stencil I used on terra cotta pots this past year, so I used that to write “Love”.
Other phrase ideas might be “Be Mine”, “XOXO”, or simply “Happy Valentine’s Day”. It’s yours, make it unique! You could even personalize it to say the person’s name that will be the recipient of the bag.
Free hand drawing a Valentine message with a fine tip marker is another easy option if you have pretty handwriting. I didn’t trust mine!
Step 5: Store the game pieces in the bag
It’s a good idea to create a couple of extra X’s and O’s in case one gets misplaced. So plan on creating 6-7 each to be safe.
After all of the paint has dried, throw the game pieces in the bag and it’s ready to be gifted to someone!
Alternative: Use a Cricut or Silhouette
If you happen to have a cutting machine, you could make the items for your bag in minutes using any svg file for Valentines you’d like! It would also be pretty simple to draw out a tic tac toe grid and cut the vinyl to iron onto your bag.
You could also use a pretty font to personalize a sweet saying or someone’s name for the bag.

This is such a cute idea! I don’t have much wood around, but I do have a bunch of small rocks. Something like this on the small rocks would be fun too.

I agree, Anne! I think small rocks would work great for the tic tac toe game. Enjoy your weekend!
