Welcome to Week 5 of the Organization and Decluttering Challenge! Last week, I focused on Efficient Kitchen Organization Ideas to Maximize Space. The week before, I posted about Real Life Closet Organization Ideas.

This organizational challenge has been such an eye opener for me! I’m learning how simple daily habits can make all the difference in making a space clutter-free.

When a system is simple, organized, and easy to maintain we can be so much more efficient and effective in our day to day routines.

This brings me to today’s focus:

How to Organize Bathroom Items and Get Ready Faster!

So my bathroom wasn’t horrible prior to this project. But, I noticed several occurrences of having similar items in various locations.

For example, I had extra toothpaste in the drawer by my sink, in the bathroom cabinets, AND in the hall linen closet. Totally not efficient.

What ended up happening all too often is I would check one location. If none were there, I would assume I was out. Then, next time I was at the store I would stock up again to find I already had several new tubes in a different location.

The same thing was happening with razors, soap, shampoo, and even makeup!

Such a waste of time and money.

Step 1: Take all bathroom items out of their current storage to organize

This is the first step with nearly every organization project. Take your items out of the drawers and cabinets to see what you have.

Step 2: Purge as needed

Throw out any expired medicines or dated products you might have in your bathroom. Our peroxide and Neosporin had expired several years ago!

Step 3: Group like-items together

If you are anything like me, you might be a bit surprised at how many of the same items you actually have. I had six loofahs, 10 tubes of toothpaste, 10 toothbrushes, and about 12 dental flosses. Oh my!

Once they are all grouped together, you will be able to determine what location is most convenient in your bathroom for storage.

Drawer organizers are perfect for keeping items separated so you can better see what you have going forward.

Contact paper was also used to line the shelving of my bathroom cabinets. They look so much nicer and are much easier to wipe out and clean.

 Step 4: Consider your bathroom routine to help organize items

Develop a well thought out plan for organizing your make-up, beauty supplies, toiletries, etc. Consider what you use every single day.

Make these items the most convenient, placing them in a location that is easy to reach.

NO more searching for things! That is the last thing you want to do when you have your morning planned to the minute.

Step 5: Establish habits of putting things back where they belong

This is an area of organization in which I was failing. So many times, I will throw things directly on the counter or somewhere close to its home. BUT, this causes extra work down the road.

Take a few moments to ensure you put things where they belong after use.

I’m speaking to myself as well. This is my biggest organizational weakness!

It turns out I have approximately 10 million elastic hair ties and bobby pins!

Step 6: Keep things tidy and uncluttered on countertops

An organized space tends to provide a feeling of calm. Uncluttered countertops are a great way to greet you when you enter your bathroom.

Realistically, it isn’t always possible to have nothing on your counters, so finding appropriate bathroom countertop organizers is key.

I found a pretty wooden bowl that I wasn’t using and corralled our Q-tips, cotton balls, disposable drinking cups, and a pretty (faux!) plant together.

Grouping them together makes them look so much more tidy!

Step 7: Ensure you have shelving over your toilet

Many master bathrooms have a separate toilet space in the bathroom. However, I have noticed that many of these do NOT have any shelves over the toilet.

Ladies, it’s nice to have a place to store your feminine products that is convenient and out of sight.

A couple of rolls of toilet paper in a pretty basket is always a good idea to have by your toilet as well!

You might have noticed greenery / plants throughout our bathroom? I am a big fan of the small faux plants at IKEA. Hobby Lobby also has nice faux plants that are reasonably priced.

We remodeled our bathroom several years ago. I’m so happy that I found the time to declutter this space so we can enjoy it more!
