Why a Bedroom Cleaning Checklist is Important

A bedroom cleaning checklist can make all the difference in maintaining a clean and organized space.

Whether your goal is a more tidy master bedroom or you need help getting young kids to do their daily chores, this free printable cleaning checklist is for you.

It helps keep things tidy, and creates a calming atmosphere for better sleep. Following a checklist is a simple way to ensure all the little things are covered, eliminating any hidden dirt or clutter.

A bedroom cleaning checklist also helps in managing time and prioritizing tasks effectively.

With our busy lives, we often overlook the importance of keeping our personal spaces clean. Having a checklist reminds us to allocate time for this task, preventing it from being neglected.

Plus, breaking down the cleaning process into smaller tasks on the list makes it less overwhelming and more manageable. Having an exact list makes it easier to get started.

A bedroom cleaning checklist also allows us to track progress and stay motivated.

Checking off completed tasks gives a sense of accomplishment and encourages us to keep going until everything is done. It serves as a visual representation of our efforts.

This positive reinforcement can even motivate us to extend this habit beyond the bedroom, leading to cleaner living spaces throughout our entire house.

Deep Cleaning Checklist for a Bedroom

The first thing you must do for a clean room is to deep clean the space.

Deep cleans are essential in a bedroom for several reasons. First of all, it promotes better indoor air quality.

Over time, dust, allergens, and pet dander can accumulate on surfaces and in bed linens.

Deep cleaning is the best way to remove these pollutants.

The CDC has a very detailed description of how cleaning can remove the majority of harmful germs.

Bedrooms are often shared with partners or children, making them high-touch areas that can harbor germs.

Regularly disinfecting surfaces like doorknobs, light switches, and bedside tables reduces the risk of illness transmission.

Additionally, deep cleaning contributes to better sleep hygiene.

A cluttered or dirty bedroom can negatively impact sleep quality. By tidying up regularly and maintaining a clean space free from distractions, you create an atmosphere conducive to relaxation and restorative rest.

At the end of the day, deep cleaning enhances indoor air quality.

Making it a regular part of your bedroom maintenance routine will pay off.

Declutter the Bedroom Checklist

If you have a messy room, decluttering is always a good idea.

Decluttering makes it much easier to keep a room clean on a regular basis. So, spend some time to get rid of surface clutter.

If you need items, but they belong in a different room, put them where they belong.

Grab some trash bags and purge anything that is junk.

The first time you do a deep cleaning routine and big decluttering, it will be time-consuming. But do your best just to dive in.

Start by making three piles – KEEP, DONATE, TRASH.

There is a good chance you will have items that belong in each of those categories. By using this organization system to declutter, you will get through all of your own room before you know it.

If you are working on kids’ bedrooms, let them help.

Over the years, I often thought it would take me less time to declutter my kids stuff myself. Unfortunately, I always managed to get rid of things they were unhappy about.

So, include family members in the purging process if possible.

Checklist to declutter a bedroom:

  • Clear under the bed
  • Clean off the bedside table and on top of any dresser, chest of drawers, or other tables
  • Purge clothes no longer needed from dressers and chest of drawers
  • Go through the entire closet: KEEP, DONATE, TRASH – be ruthless!
  • Get rid of shoes that no longer fit or that you do not wear or need
  • Jewelry that you do not wear or is not sentimental to you. Sell, donate, or trash as appropriate.

Getting rid of stuff will give you a little motivation. Or a lot of motivation after bigger tasks are completed.

Home management can be overwhelming. Get my Home Project Planning Binder on sale here and get started with your next home project.

Monthly Cleaning Checklist

Once decluttering is done, it’s time to focus on monthly cleaning.

Once a month, take time for more detailed cleaning.

Don’t save it all until spring cleaning rolls around. We all have different living styles, so concentrate on how you live.

But monthly cleaning schedules can keep the weekly and daily tasks from feeling daunting.

Monthly Cleaning Tasks:

  • Clean ceiling fan
  • Dust picture frames, light bulbs, and lampshades
  • Clean window treatments (i.e., vacuum/launder curtains, dust blinds, and clean windows)
  • Wipe down walls with a damp cloth
  • Wash duvet cover or comforter (follow care instructions)
  • Clean and organize under the bed
  • Vacuum mattress
  • Clean baseboards
  • Wash bed skirt

Weekly Cleaning Checklist

Once the monthly routine is established, the weekly cleaning will feel much more manageable.

Start by throwing the bedding in the washing machine, then dive into the rest.

I like to keep two sets of sheets. Then, as I’m washing one set of linens, I can make my bed with the other set of clean linens.

Items to clean weekly:

  • Wash bedding and change sheets to ensure clean linens
  • Clean under bed
  • Wipe down the bed frame
  • Clean/dust decor items
  • Nightstand clean and organize
  • Dust all furniture; polish furniture
  • Clean mirror
  • Clean door handles and light switches
  • Sweep and vacuum or mop the entire floor(depending on carpets vs. hardwood floors)
  • Spot clean throw pillows

Daily Cleaning Routine

As you will find, daily cleaning is quite manageable if you follow a weekly and monthly routine.

Daily cleaning:

  • Pick up dirty clothes and put them in hamper
  • Tidy nightstand and other furniture pieces
  • Remove trash
  • Tidy closet floor
  • Take dirty dishes to the kitchen
  • Put away clean clothes
  • Make bed
