Faded garage doors…not the first thing you want to see when pulling into the driveway.

You guessed it. I’ve been painting again!  This time painting our faded garage doors.  As you look through the upcoming photos, you may ask yourself why I even bothered since the change is not dramatic.  I’ll save you from wondering and just tell you it was because they were driving me crazy.

I knew going into the project that the difference wouldn’t be obvious to some, but the doors have been a “when I get time” project for at least this past year.

How to paint faded garage doors:

Every time I pulled into our driveway, I thought to myself, “I’ve got to get around to painting those faded garage doors!”.  They were SO ugly.  At first I thought they were just dirty, so I spent some time washing them to no avail.  Painting was a must!

One lesson I’ve learned from my countless DIY projects, is sometimes the end result will not be as notable to others as it is to you.  But, the most important thing is completing a project that brings you joy.  Ultimately, that is why you are doing it in the first place.

The previous color was Black Fox by Sherwin Williams, which I love.  But, I had nearly an entire gallon of Urbane Bronze by Sherwin Williams left over from my front door makeover I completed several weeks back.  Since the colors are so similar, I decided to go for the Urbane Bronze and avoid buying more paint.

Check out the faded garage doors:

Pay specific attention to the bottoms of the doors where they are REALLY faded!

I taped off the weather stripping on the top of the doors first.

I started to tape off the weather stripping on the sides, but decided it would just be easier to pull the weather stripping aside and paint.

Just a tiny bit of the faded door is left!  Hello bright, new paint!

While I was finishing the doors, I decided to give the planters a new coat of paint as well.  I used some Rustoleum  spray paint I already had to freshen them up a bit.

Even though they aren’t a dramatic difference, I am so happy they are finished.  I can officially check that project off my list.  It really wasn’t that big of a commitment.  I spent about 3 1/2 hours repainting the garage doors which was totally worth it so I can stop wasting my time thinking about them!

Are your garage doors faded?

If so, don’t stress about this project.  It was easy and relatively quick to complete.

I’d love to hear from you!  Leave me a comment below regarding the doors or just say hello!
