I love to add color to my home with flowers!  But, fresh flowers can get expensive and they never last as long as I’d like.  So, I often use artificial flowers to give my decor the added color I’m searching for.  Some are hesitant to decorate with fake flowers because they fear they look too fake.

Do artificial flowers look tacky in home decor? Artificial flowers can look stylish and beautiful in your home when done the right way. The trick is selecting flowers that actually look real. Real flower arrangements are a good source of inspiration. A quick online search will get you started.

Faux flowers have come a long way.  With a little bit of searching, you can find some beautiful floral stems that fit perfectly in your home.

There are several ways you can incorporate artificial flowers into your home decor. Get inspired with the following ideas and get creative with how you decide to display your faux flowers!

Add Artificial Floral Stems to Grapevine Wreaths

Adding floral stems to grapevine wreaths is a great way to add a fun, seasonal element to your outdoor wreaths.

If you have a covered porch, your floral stems can be used for years to come!

I’ve done this to make a DIY magnolia wreath as well as various other grapevine wreaths for different seasons.

Change the floral stems out with the seasons and you are set!

As you can see in the video below, I don’t even glue them to the grapevine wreath. If your wreath doesn’t get a lot of wind, it should be fairly durable by simply pushing the stem into the wreath.

Put Artificial Flowers in a Vase

Placing faux flowers in a vase is a great way to add a pop of color to your home.

If your vase is NOT clear, you can simply put the floral stems in the vase. With a little bit of shaping your will have a great arrangement.

A foam block might be helpful in allowing the stems to stay in place if you have a wide-mouthed vase.

However, if you are making an arrangement with a clear vase, it will be much more obvious that the flowers are fake if you do not add water to your vase.

Just remember that if you add water to floral stems with a wire base they will rust eventually. Another alternative is to use acrylic water made for faux floral arrangements.

Create a Napkin Ring with Faux Flowers

Use a large artificial flower to add a fun pop of life to a napkin ring.

By wrapping the wire floral stem around the napkin ring, it will stay intact for your company. Of course, this could be traded out with the seasons, too!

Mini-Wreath Around Candles

Using floral stems or mini-wreaths around the base of candles can add a nice element of texture to a vignette.

I prefer to use the faux flowers around flameless candles to avoid having a fire hazard!

But, occasionally I’ll add them around real candles if I know I won’t be burning it frequently or if I don’t expect the candle to be burned very low.

Use Artificial Flowers in a Balloon Display

Flowers are a great way to dress up a decorative balloon display for a special occasion.

The flowers could be paired with balloons on an archway, tied around the balloon, and even placed inside of translucent balloons.

Use Faux Floral Stems for Outdoor Planters

Artificial flowers actually can work well for your outdoor planters! I love to mix in some floral stems with real greenery, especially for my outdoor winter planters and pots.

The faux flowers and floral stems can add a great pop of color, even when the weather isn’t great (too cold OR too hot) for outdoor plant life.

Artificial Floral Letter Wooden Monogram

Grab some hot glue, floral wire cutters, a large wooden letter, and your favorite color of fake flowers and you are set to make a pretty floral letter!

Depending on the size of the wooden letter you choose, this could be quick project that could personalize your home decor.

Artificial Flower Arrangement in a Basket for Door or Wall

Use floral foam in the bottom of a basket and create an arrangement to display on your door in lieu of a wreath.

Or just make a basket of pretty flowers to add to another vignette within your home.

The fun thing about using artificial flowers is you can rotate them out with different seasons and holidays, but you can still use them again and again!

The upfront cost might be slightly higher than fresh flowers, but they will last SO much longer.

FAQs:

Is it ok to decorate with artificial flowers?

Some think that artificial floral stems are ‘too fake’ to add to home decor. BUT, they have come a long way and can really add beauty to a space without all the fuss of trying to keep one more thing alive!

Where is the best place to buy fake flowers?

These days, fake flowers can be found in a variety of locations. I have found great success at Hobby Lobby, Michaels (or other craft stores) and even Target.

I would be somewhat skeptical of buying fake flowers online. It’s important to see them in person. Sometimes fake can look a bit too fake.

How do you keep fake flowers in place?

Fake floral stems do well when placed in floral foam. This keeps them from moving around in the vase or container. A bit of bending of the wire stems might be necessary to ensure they look their best!

What to put in the vase with fake flowers?

You can put water in the vase with artificial flowers, but if the stems are wire, this will cause them to rust. An alternative is to use epoxy resin or artificial floral water to give the appearance of real water.
