Board Game Ideas for the Board Game Enthusiast:
1. Rummikub — The Original Rummy Tile Game
This is a family favorite for us! We play this at nearly every family gathering at my parents. It’s quick and easy, which means every age can join in on the fun. It is recommended for ages 8+, but I know my kids started playing even younger with a little bit of guidance. You form runs and sets much like the rummy card game. If your family doesn’t have this, you must grab one today!
2. Board Game Ideas: Sequence
This is suitable for ages 7+, so it is something all ages can enjoy. Sequence is a combination of playing cards and a board game; definitely great for the entire family!
3. Clue Harry Potter Board Game
A fun twist to an old favorite! Who doesn’t love Harry Potter? Recommended ages 9+.
4. Ideas for Board Games: Code Names
This is a game I have yet to try, but the Amazon reviews indicate it is a blast. Since it is for ages 14+, it looks to be a little more challenging. Code Names is a social word game that works best in groups of 4-8 individuals.
5. Bounce Off
My kids got this game a few years ago and it is so much fun! It has simple instructions, but does require some bouncing skills! It’s great for getting a group together for a structured activity when you want a little bit of movement in the group. Ages 7+, 2-4 players.
6. Telestrations
Based on the old game “telephone”, except in Telestrations a message gets passed along among players via drawings with miscommunications being a guarantee. No real drawing skills are required, as the lack of quality drawings is part of the fun. This game for 8 is perfect for getting a big group of people together and just having fun! Ages 12+.
7. Catan
For ages 10+, requires 3-4 players, and takes about an hour or more to play. It has been described as a mix between Monopoly and Risk and is HIGHLY addictive from what I read. I am definitely putting it on my Christmas list this year!
8. Pandemic
Recommended for ages 13+, 2-4 players. Amazon’s game description: “Four diseases have broken out in the world and it is up to a team of specialists in various fields to find cures for these diseases before mankind is wiped out.” Read some of the reviews for this game; it looks sure to be a hit!
9. 5 Second Rule
For 3-4 players, ages 10+. In this word game, players have 5 seconds to name 3 things that fit a specified category. It is definitely a fast-paced party game. Some sample questions are: “Name 3 famous bald people”, “name 3 super heroes”, “name 3 brands of deodorant”…within 5 seconds. You get the idea!
10. Qwirkle.
For ages 6+, 2-4 players. Qwirkle is a strategy game that even small children can play. Perfect board game for all ages.
I hope you found some useful gift ideas for board games for the entire family!
I’d love to hear some suggestions you have. One of my family goals is to move away from screens and focus more on face-to-face interactions. I truly hope we get a chance to use our board games more, and hopefully, add a few to our game closet!
Such a clever giftt idea! and omg Harry potter Clue, too fun! perfect gift for HP lovers!
Thanks, Samantha!
I bought Bounce Off for my nephews. It looked fun, but I didn’t know when I bought it. Good to hear it’s a fun game.
And Telestrations can be hilarious to play! I didn’t think I would enjoy it because I’m not much of a drawer, but that made it even better. My family has had quite a few laughs over it.
Thanks, Emily! I’m definitely putting Telestrations on my list this Christmas…I’ve heard great things about it!
Telestrations is super fun and makes you laugh! Great list of games. I’ll have to check out a couple of these for our family Christmas gift!
Thanks so much, Amanda! I love group games that get everyone involved. Thanks for stopping by!
this is a great roundup!! I haven’t heard of many of these so thank you for sharing!
My pleasure, Lyndsey!
My husband and I looooove playing Sequence! It’s like “our game.” Good choice!
I love that, Annie! Have a great weekend…maybe play a little Sequence 😉
Love playing board games. These look awesome!
Thanks, Kari!
Thank you! We are always looking for new board games, especially as the cold weather approaches. I’ve never played Rummikub, will have to try it!
Rummikub is my favorite! To be honest, my kids get sick of it because it’s ALWAYS my go-to game. I think you’d love it 😉. Enjoy your weekend, Jenifer!
